Saundersfoot's Summer Festival by the Sea

Saundersfoot will be hosting a series of events during Pembrokeshire Fish Week, as part of Saundersfoot’s Summer Festival by the Sea.

What’s Going On

22nd June

Beach Safari– meet at the top of Saundersfoot Beach Slipway at 1.30pm.    FSC Orielton will be hosting a walk along Saundersfoot beach and exploring the tideline walking towards the rockpools near Coppet Hall. Learn the about the creatures that you find on the beach and that live in the pools.  Finish time approx. 4.30pm – although you don’t have to stay for the full 3 hours.

Group size is limited to 30 participants.  Under 14’s must be accompanied by an adult.

Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing; bring your own refreshments.

West Wales Model Boats- will be putting on a display from 10.30am at Coppet Hall (Car Park). 
The Club will have a wide range of models including Lifeboats, Tractors, Diggers, Tanks and Boats on display and will be demonstrating some radio-controlled models.

FOC Suitable for all ages.  Look for the gazebos in the carpark 

Car parking charges apply at Coppet Hall. Refreshments are available at the Kiosk.

The Welsh Federation of Sea Anglers (WFSA)are sending 3 members of the Welsh Team to Coppet Hall  beach on 22nd June - they'll be available to show people how to fish, have a chat about tips and their experiences of fishing.  They have over 57 years experience between them. The members are:

Franco Attanasio - with over 30 years experience in the Welsh team;

Christopher Read - over 15 years experience with the Welsh team;

Andrew Hutchings - 12 years experience with the Welsh team and currently ranked 9th in the world

FOC – under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult. Look for the Flags and anglers on the beach.

Casting off at 10.30am – this is your chance to have a go at fishing and get some top tips from the professionals.

Craft Sessions at Dilys’ Photography, High Street 10-3pm 

Under 14’s should be accompanied by an adult. Booking advised, but not essential. £5 per person (to cover costs)

Shell Craft sessions (22ndJune) – Try a number of crafts using locally found shells.

23rd June

Seaweed Kitchen

Câr-y-Môr will be putting up their outdoor seaweed potion kitchen on Coppet Hall Beach (11-5pm). This unique child-led activity is free for all children to come and create magical seaweed potions in Car-y-Mor’s kitchen! 

On the beach we will also become rock pool explorers sustainably harvesting many of the ingredients we need for our potions and always collecting any waste plastic.

Once magic has been created you can have your photo taken in our Ocean Farm face-in-hole photo board. 

Under 14’s must be accompanied by an adult. This is a drop-in session, so stay as long as you are able.
Refreshments are available at the Kiosk, Coppet Hall.  Car parking charges apply at Coppet Hall.

Fishing rod and reel clinicwill be held at the Mermaid Gift Shop (next to the beach slipway) during the day. Pop in and see Dan – who will give advice on rods, reels, and bait suitable for fishing at Saundersfoot.

Music

Ukulele Bandthis popular band will playing 1-3pm – located at the top of the beach slipway, near the flagpole.  The band will be raising money for the RNLI, all donations welcome.  Please come along and sing along – the more the merrier!

24th June

Exploring Saundersfoot’s beaches- FSC Orielton will be holding a walk along the coast towards Monkstone Point discussing the Geology, landforms (such as Lady’s Cave) and the Fauna en route.
2.30pm – meet at the access ramp at the back of the harbour (access to Back/Glen Beach).  

FOC.  Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing; bring your own refreshments.

Musiclocal musician Butch will be playing live 1-3pm at the Harbwr Bar

25th June

Beach Clean and Art Session– Saundersfoot Strollers will be carrying out a litter pick on Saundersfoot Beach.  Why not pop down and join them?  FOC; Accessible to All.  Equipment provided.

Meet at Beach Slipway at 9.30 am Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

Cleaning will be followed by an art session, using the rubbish and natural items found, run by Art & Education by the Sea

26th June

Music– Fishguard Folk Singers will be performing 1-3pm at the Harbwr Bar

28th June

Music– Footbridge will be playing 1-3pm at the Harbwr Bar

29th June

 “Art and Education by the Sea”will be running a beach sculpture workshop.   All day event (10-4pm) at Coppet Hall Beach – look for the sculptures to find the workshop.

Creating sculptures with materials found on the beach, inspired by endangered marine species.  The larger sculptures will be photographed and left on the beach, forming a sculpture trail for all to enjoy.  Your photographs become the lasting artwork as nature reclaims the natural materials.

FOC.  Please bring bucket and spade; dress appropriately for the weather.

All ages and abilities welcome.  Under 14’s must be accompanied by an adult.

Lunch and drinks are available to purchase from the Kiosk (or bring your own)

Saundersfoot’s Pop Up Cinema

Our Free Pop Up Cinema is being held at the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot

Under 14’s need to be accompanied by an adult.

Snacks and refreshments will be on sale before the films start.  Free entry, donations appreciated.

Come and try your hand at block lino printing and create a sea themed print (29thJune) – session run by local artist Diana Brook

Music- Vagrants Crewwill be singing 1-3pm at the top of the beach slipway, near the Flagpole. This popular group from West Wales have been together for around 20 years and perform songs of the sea (both accompanied and unaccompanied) although they have a repertoire of many different genres.  They have performed at many diverse festivals and venues throughout the UK and Europe. Although their average age is classified information, they are, often described as an “ever so slightly mad, fun loving bunch” who thoroughly enjoy their music, playing and singing their own arrangements of traditional songs in their unique style and fully intend to do so for as long as possible. 

FOC – all donations gratefully received and will be given to the RNLI

Cafes, Restaurants and Pubs will have a range of special fish dishes on their menus during Fish Week – you may want to check out: 

Kookaba, High Street – from our favourite Australian restaurant: Barramundi – simply grilled; Cockle Popcorn; Mussels in a lime, chilli and coconut broth.

Shoreline Café; Seafood Pizza

Old Chemist Inn: Fillet of plaice served with cockles in white wine and garlic sauce, samphire and choice of potatoes.

Beachside Barbeque – Fresh or Fried Fish Platters

Cwl Box, bottom of beach slipway – will be serving a Herby Crab special along-side their regular menu 

Phillys– special crab salad baguette and special prawn salad baguette – both available with Marie Rose sauce sprinkled with sea salt and chilli flakes; 

Harold O’Vinegars – the only seafood shop in the village and the place to go if you want to buy shellfish, locally caught crab and lobster.  The week’s special will be prawns in a rustic crusty roll with homemade seafood sauce.

Little & Large Lite Bites– Smoked mackerel pate with granary toast, salad garnish and homemade coleslaw. 

Marina Fish Chips and More – Fresh fish & chips

The Tramway, The Strand – smoked salmon and cream cheese savoury pancakes 

The Kiosk at Coppet Hall will be offering – 100% Pembrokeshire white crab meat (from Little Haven) sandwiches; Fish Finger sandwiches and, fish-shaped doggy treats for your four legged friend! 

Fishing & Boat Tripsaboard the Four Brothers – no experience needed as tuition provided.  Why not go out to Saundersfoot Bay and try and catch some mackerel. 

Sports Fishing trips for Bass, Pollock and Tope aboard the Ebony May – 2 hour trips £20 pp

Saundersfoot Sea Safaris – wildlife trips around the Pembrokeshire coastline.  Enjoy the seals, porpoise and sea bird colonies off Caldey and St. Margaret’s Islands.

Sea-themed colouring sheets will be available at numerous cafes and restaurants throughout the village

Take part in A Fish Called Saunders – find out where Saunders and his friends are hiding around the village and help us decide which shop has the best sea-themed window display. 

Litter picking equipment (provided by Keep Wales Tidy) is available all week for anyone who would like to undertake a beach clean – please pop in to Elements of Pembrokeshire, 2 The Strand.
